Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark, a remarkable M.D. and researcher, is the man behind osseointegration. The process has, together with Dr. Matts Andersson´s innovation to industrially produce individualized dental prosthetics, founded Swiss-Swedish medical technology company Nobel Biocare. The company is a world-leading dental solutions provider building on more than 40 years of experience when delivering the modern, dental implants and prosthetics expected by patients today.
Titanium implants would not be used routinely today were it not for the pioneering work of physician Per-Ingvar Brånemark. More than half a century ago, he was the first to observe that the human body would not only tolerate titanium, but even integrate it into living tissue in a process he called osseointegration. This insight has revolutionised the fields of dental, maxillofacial and orthopaedic rehabilitation since then. Based on his original scientific findings, innovative bone-anchored restorative solutions have improved the quality of life for millions of people around the world.
Life-changing dental solutions
Dental implants are nowadays widely used and the industry is generally considered to be mature. The integration of the same technology in other segments, such as bone-anchored hearing aids, is also widely explored by forward striving companies. With over 2500 employees, Nobel Biocare is at the forefront of developing and integrating life-changing dental solutions globally.
“We offer pure science-based solutions for restorative and esthetical dental care globally. Our main focus is always the patient. To improve quality of life is an ambition manifested in the company mission ‘Designing for Life’. The aim is primarily to restore functionality and support important processes in every-day life, such as the ability to eat, talk and socialise”, says Dr. Jenny Fäldt, Director of Biological Systems at Nobel Biocare AB in Gothenburg.
The Nobel Biocare sales and marketing division representing the Nordic countries is based in Gothenburg, with Sweden being the country in the world with highest implant treatment acceptance and Gothenburg a hub for life science research in general and oral health treatment in particular.
Real and lasting difference
“Our overall ambition is to install confidence in people. In replacing lost teeth and restoring a smile, dental professionals all over the world make a real and lasting difference to the well-being of their patients. Our core mission is to provide the solutions that make it possible”, says Harrieth Sundaeus, Managing Director Nobel Biocare AB.
Dental Hygienist Heidi has a dental implant after losing a front tooth, she outlines her experience: “In my work I’d seen the great results that are possible with implants. And so I decided to try it for myself. The procedure was minimally invasive, so I could go for dinner the same evening”. This shows how efficient and patient-oriented the dental implant solutions are, giving perfect results with minimal pain and intervention.
Complete treatment concept
Nobel Biocare offers an extensive assortment of dental implants for all indications, bone types and surgical protocols, from 5.5 to 52 mm in length, from 3 to 6 mm wide. They also provide a full range of CAD/CAM-based individualised dental prosthetics for every indication – from a single tooth to fully edentulous jaws, on both implants and natural teeth.
“We deliver a complete concept for diagnostics, treatment planning and guided implant surgery for all indications. In doing so, we offer detailed 3D diagnostics so dental professionals can get the best view of the indication, while prosthetic-driven planning keeps the intended result in mind,” Jenny Fäldt underlines.
Nobel Biocare’s customers – and their patients – can be confident that the solutions provided for tooth restoration have been designed to provide fully functional, natural-looking results with the aspiration to last a lifetime. This is Designing for Life.
