NovaCast works more and more with design optimisation and process control.
“We want to help our customers develop their designed objects more efficiently to reach the market faster. Simply shortening the industrialisation time is something we are focusing a lot on right now. Everyone knows that the faster you can reach the market, the better. Design optimisation is a service we are developing more and more”, says Stefan Eriksson, CEO of NovaCast Systems.
Strong in renewable energy
NovaCast Systems was established in 1981 with headquarters in Ronneby, Sweden. Over the years, the business has developed with more offices and subsidiaries, one of which is NovaCast Labs in Jönköping. Here, they work with next-generation casting products. There are also subsidiaries in Thailand, India and the USA. NovaCast’s simulation software and design optimisation services are sold all over the world.
Customer segments are the automotive industry, renewable energy and the electronics sector. In addition, there are special segments such as jewellery manufacturing and cooking applications. NovaCast has always listened to the needs of the market. Where there is a need to simulate a casted product, NovaCast is a potential partner in development. As an example of how widespread NovaCast’s services are, take the renewable energy business area. Most major players in Sweden and internationally that manufacture wind turbines use simulation tools from NovaCast.
“With our design optimisation, we can improve our customers’ products and the entire production chain. We want to facilitate all steps from design to tool development and the actual production after that, that is, the casting. We want to do this so that our customers can streamline their operations as much as possible and quickly achieve profitability in their processes”, Stefan explains.
“All of our customers strive for high precision”, he continues. “The higher the precision, the more careful you have to be when manufacturing the casting tools and then casting the parts. We are involved from the very beginning and ensure that the customer’s processes are optimised for high-precision production. This involves much more work than you might think, and we call it process optimisation”.
Every casting counts
NovaCast also has simulation programs that check stress relationships in the finished material.
“If there are any remaining stress tendencies in the material, it will crack sooner or later. Imagine that it is a wind turbine weighing several hundred tons. That must not happen. We are helping to prevent this with our software and our services. Our slogan is "Every casting counts", and by that we mean that you should not have to recast. Everything should be perfect from the start, and that is what our tools will do”.
Stefan is extremely proud of the journey NovaCast has made and is still making.
